We’ve finished seven days of filming at Alan and Kathy Hannaford’s performance horse stud at Braidwood on the southern tablelands of New South Wales. I caught a beautiful six month old filly foal, still on her mother and showed the progression of lessons from the very first contact. It was interesting to see her progress day by day and lesson by lesson.
Though the foal was frightened in her first couple of lessons, she learned to be very confident and relaxed over the ten days of filming. I also started a three year old gelding under saddle. The gelding has spent his life out in a paddock and had had very little handling. He was very worried at first but soon learned to be confident and relaxed in all his lessons.
Alan and Kathy invited a few spectators along to watch. It’s always good to have interested people to watch and discuss what’s going on. Thanks to Alan and Kathy for giving me the opportunity to document my approach on film. The Hannaford’s horses, facilities and hospitality are unsurpassed.
